Now and then - The Thirty Days Challenge

Hi everyone,

This is my most unproductive month ever... 6 days left to complete this phase and not much was done. This is the real personal life taking all my time. I'm not stalled, juste moving very slowly. I think the most important is to always go forward and never stop. slowly but surely (I thank you all to understand.)

The big cause to my slowness is my personal situation not having a job and working very hard to get one ^full time^. I have a big down! But with many support I'm able to keep-up in this sort of living - Thanks to my girly -

This is sort off exiting in a point of view, since by doing this on the web all can see the ups and downs. Not all is easy and pink. I didn't want to talk about personal life, but just giving basic information, because there is much more, but the basic is enough.

Well i did create new ideas and write them down. This is important because the future will stand on all those ideas.

I want to remind you that I didn't send the stand out yet, because I figure-out a new design that will be better - Don't worry about that I didn't forget you -

I will try to make a video next time... Now and then... See you...

Apple’s WWDC 2009 conference - The Thirty Days Challenge

Hi everyone,

Today i will not talk much about my challenge but its tightly related, heres why:

It is a special day for anyone that is interested in Apple products and certainly for developers. In San Francisco was the Worldwide Developers Conference 2009 "WWDC 2009", the greatest meeting of the year in the Apple universe. As usual, this is a great opportunity for Apple to give news about new products and updates.

Apple has refreshed iPhones, MacBooks and the more important for me the OS X and iPhone OS. What is my interesest, is the iPhone OS, because i want to become a developer on that platform. More stuff can be done now. Apple announce the new SDK (100+ new APIs), firmware update and the launch of the the fastest iPhone ever in Canada and US on june 19 2009. By knowing what the SDK has, the more imagination my spirit will have.

The first thing we should notice on the new iPhone is the speed, everything should be two times faster "better performance, 3D gaming for incredible gaming experience, email, speedy web surfing". The magnetometer, will allow the device to tell what direction it's pointed in. The new camera is 3 megapixel with autofocus. It will pretty easy to make little masterpiece with the new camera, because the camera (VGA) has better image quality and we can record videos at 30fps and that is not all with the camera, we can scrub a video and edit it too. You can share the video right from your iPhone 3GS to YouTube, MobileMe, MMS, and email... Apple has improved the battery life. Now up to 9 hours of internet surfing, 10 hours of video, 30 hours of audio, 12 hours of 2g talk-time, 5 hours of 3g talk-time.

Here is what i know about San Francisco conference:

The Mac Book Pro 15 inch, depending on the model will have between 4 and 8 GB of RAM and 320 to 500 GB of memory.

The portable 13-inch is increased in autonomy. Its increased by two hours to offer seven hours of continuous use. And in both cases, SD card reader.

Today was an opportunity to talk about the new operating system "Snow Leopard" that is now faster, a savings of 45% on installation time. According to Apple, the system is two times faster than the Leopard 10.5.7. The new version of the operating system comes with improvements to Windows Exchange for applications Mail, iCal, and Address Book. Finally, Snow Leopard will be available for all Intel Mac in September.

Mac and PC can right now download the new version of the Safari browser 4. A version that is (according to apple) faster than Internet Explorer 8, Firefox 3 and Chrome 2. In some cases, Safari would be 7 times faster than IE. This new version of the browser will be included in Snow Leopard.

Now back to iPhone 3.0 ;

Apple confirms the sale of 40 million iPhone and iPod Touch devices on the market. It was noted that 50 000 applications are now available in App Store. In comparison to Android Market only offers 5 000 applications.

The new OS for iPhone is improved greatly. It is now possible to research in applications, music, notes and email. Regarding search in email, it is said that the research can be done in e-mails that are already present in the device and for those hosted on the mail server.

Apple included an application (Find My iPhone) that is available to MobileMe customers. You can login to MobileMe on any browser and see where your phone is on a Google Map. It lets you send a message (a special alert), regardless if your phone is on silent or not, it will beep. If your phone really is lost or stolen, you can send a remote wipe command that will delete all of your data (mail, contacts, etc). If you do find the phone later, it will be restored from a backup.

A final word on the new iPhone and OS. The operating system update will be available beginning June 19 at a cost of 9.95 dollars for users of iPod Touch and it will be free for iPhone users.

And finally ... the new iPhone 3GS will retains the same appearance, adding the power under the hood. Launch an application is twice as fast, same thing for games, visualization of a document or opening a message. The unit is compatible with the 7.2 Mbps HSDPA network and comes with a 3 megapixel camera that serves both amateur photos and video. Since the new iPhone offers 30 fps video ... The voice control is also in the new iPhone 3GS. You can start any application by voice by pressing the Home button. You can launch an application, make a call or select your music.

Apple reviewed the autonomy, up to 9 hours of Internet through WiFi, 10 hours of video, 30 hours of audio, 12 hours talk time on a 2G network and finally, 5 hours 3G network.

Starting June 19, it will be on sale in the United States, Canada, France Germany, Italy, Spain, Switzerland and Great Britain for $199 16GB and $299 dollars for the 32GB version. For those who wants a cheaper one, the current iPhone 3G 8GB version will be sold at $99.

It is an exiting day!

Today is questions and questions! - The Thirty Days Challenge

I always ask my self: if then... Goto 10 :-) Just joking... Well, didn't do much for now, study lightly. I done lately many job interview. Its a nice experience, all different and many type of different values. I'm astonished from a point of view, that to go through a fixed point for a precise job, you have to do so many home work, to have a adequate preparation for the interview.

Can you image that...Oh! by the way, I'm 36 years old and 10 years back, an interview was quietly simple, You get a meeting and get in the office then 25 minutes later you got a job. Well not today! You get an appointment, you get an interview then 2h30 later, answering questions, you still don"t know if you have the job... Oh! that is not all, there is 3 steps, before you get to know if you are good to make the job done.

Time changes and we are all happy that it changes. Its a hard time, but it will not always be hard like this, there's hope, because time changes and we change with time.

Today i had more ideas! Kept almost all... forgot one, and I'm not happy... it was a good one. Well I don't miss imagination, there is always new one.

Today i writhed on my blog, and didn't have much to say or tell, but just trying to make this always alive. Maybe a twitter will give more life?

New Challenge On The Block - The Thirty Days Challenge

Today received a few calls from employers that I have sent my resume, lets see and see what will come. Even if I get hired on a new job I will continue the challenge.

I give my full day time seeking for a job, didn't have lots of time to study lately. I need to get organized and create a schedule that will balance my day and evening time for optimal learning, its on my todo list.

I have writhed down all my ideas for my first game and application. You know what? I was taking a calming bath with my beautiful girl friend and I was hit by a bubble bath and it gave me astonishing ideas :-) I had just beside of me my scrapbook and wrote them all down. I love days like that.

The first 30 days phase is almost complete. I think that a lot was done and it exceeded all my expectations. I'm so happy that somewhere in this world I'm not alone and some still believe. Its not easy to go around a project on internet because of wolf "untrustworthy" persons.

Thanks to those of you that donate and post comments. It helps me stay on track and a great source of motivation. If you have any constructive criticisms or helpful suggestions that will help, please feel free to post.

One Week Left - The Thirty Days Challenge

Hello,

One week to go before the end of the 30 days challenge to collect the necessary found to buy a Mac mini at $729CDN. I'm very impressed that the majority of the donation came from complete strangers all over the world, actually 3 people i know participated. Its incredible, I'm astonished!!! A few weeks back, i have writhed to a few most popular web sites and Apple, but as today still totally ignored.

I'm very honored to those that already donated, will keep in mind forever and will keep a special something when all the objective-c knowledge comprehended.

Was busy these past days, because I'm still looking intensively for a job. Its a hard time, it needs to be lived to be understood, well i don't wish this even to my worst enemy.

I started to read the book (Programming in Objective-C), i just finished chapter 1 and started chapter 2. I learned extensions, comments statement, classes, objects and methods, Xcode, Interface builder. I'm emerged in the book, will continue to read and for now predict the expected output, because i don't have a proper development platform. I learn the hard way, but sure learning!!!

I don't know if this is clear, but i don't have any revenue no aide from my government, no aide from any union, nothing... I'm still looking for a job in most of my time. If i still can communicate its because i have a wonderful girl next to me that pays basic food, Internet access and the necessary to survive. Oh! well, i don't know if one can imagine living without revenue? In my bad-luck I'm still lucky to have a wonderful person that is trying to sustain me as she is not rich. Normally a person alone in my situation will be living outdoor and that is way worser, for now i still have bed to sleep.

For all the people i know, all the world that is reading and believe, please help me realize this challenge. If you know some one that is willing to donate, please talk about my project and my blog. The best way to help me is through a donation. Its done securely with PayPal.

17 Days (song) - The Thirty Days Challenge

17 Days (the rain will come down, then U will have 2 choose. If U believe, look 2 the dawn and U shall never lose.)" (usually referred to as "17 Days") is one of the most famous of musician Prince's.

17 days left to the first 30 days phase. As you can understand financial support is still needed and its the best way to help me, as i don't have any revenue. I live very difficultly at this moment, I have set this challenge (read first post) to be able to receive all your support. I have sent invitation to all the people i know (around 150) that has the financial potential to support me.

Before i lost my job, every year i walk 24 hours to support canadian cancer foundation and donate to two children foundation:

  • Canadian Cancer Society Relay For Life (is an opportunity to get together with family and friends and celebrate cancer survivors, remember loved ones lost to cancer, and fight back in the hope of finding a cure for this terrible disease)
  • Canadian Tire JumpStart (gives kids in financial need the opportunity to participate in organized sports and recreational activities)
  • Canadian feed the children (The goal is to reduce the impact of poverty on children)

I always believed in pay it forward philosophy thats why i give so much in my life. Its not only money, it can be a simple as listening to someone that needs to talk. It reminds me a little adventure, let me tell you;

On 1997 i was passing by a park at night i heard a gun shot, heard a voice asking for help, i run as quickly as i could and made face to face with a man, bumped on him, I excused my self, jump over a fence and found a teenager lying on the grass crying. I ask him where you got shot, he told me in the head, i think and i cant move my legs. The teen was bleeding like hell, I ripped-off my t-shirt and made a compression on the hole. The teenager was holding my hand, begging me to stay and not leave him alone. I stay with him till the ambulance, police and journalist arrived. The journalist asked me if he can publish the story, i have ask him to keep my name anonymous. The day after the article was posted and the police came at my home, told me that i have save his life because of my quick intervention to stop the bleeding. It looks like the man i bumped on was the criminal (the one that shot the teenager). I never received news or saw the teen since he recover after one week intensive care. The teen was lucky, the bullet ricochet on his head to stop course behind his scapula. Doctors were unable to remove the bullet, but he survived.

Now back to the main topic. In my last post i said that I was going to post a video, but i didn't, but will make one today. I just want to tell you, because of my Internet speed when i send a 2 minutes video, it can take up to two and half hours to upload.

Thank you to take the time to read my blog, I'm honored. Like as usual, if you have any constructive criticisms or helpful suggestions that will help, please feel free to post.

The First Sign Of Success Arrived

Hello,

Look what i have today! SO HAPPY, I just received my book. Learning Objective-C 2.0 3rd edition in my hands. I’m very excited to start to read it. Not only I'm exited, I'm also trilled and curious how I'm going to tame this book for maximizing my learning. It would be extremely difficult to go through an entire technical book without preparation. So i need to think on making a template for study and stick to it till the end.

Video after the break!

For those that are starting to read my blog, I'm unemployed, with no source of revenue and I'm going in multi phases (30 days) create an quality iPhone app from scratch, without any knowledge of programming language. To accomplish this I need the necessary funds to buy the needed material. What is missing for now is the minimum required development platform, that is a Mac mini.

For all the people i know, for all the world that is reading this who believe, please help me realize this challenge. If you know some one that is willing to donate, please talk about my project and my blog. The best way to help me is through a donation. Its done securely with PayPal official web site.

Heaven Bubbles Soap - The Thirty Days Challenge

Hello,

Today i just check for fun to see where was my book. With a nice online tool, was able to track down the location, Ah! technology is nice! The book arrive in Montreal, wow just 650 km from my house, that means if all goes well it should arrive tomorrow.

That will be the starting time for study and learning. It is unfortunate that still don't have the necessary funds to buy a mac :-( This challenge going to be more challenging that thought. I did ask for help to many (hundreds), yet only received 3 donations. I thought that this challenge will make sort of kind of history and many people will get interested by the subject. I think i need a boost of marketing. I followed the suggestion and i indeed written to apple and try to sell my challenge and what i was going to do online. did also write to some apple news sites, but as today didn't receive any news.

Well you know? I will not give up and i will try as hard as i can with what i have. I will do whatever its needed to learn Objective-C and iPhone platform. I have at least 3 people that believe. Three people that believe is enough for Victor to build the unthinkable. So continue to read my blog and don't be shy to post it's give me energy to continue, it's always appreciate to receive comments about all of you that come to see my blog, just a hi or what a planned to learn, ask a few questions...I'm here to ear from you and maybe why not learn about some people who wants to give me some advice :-)

One Step Ahead - The Thirty Days Challenge

Hello,

I want to thank you all for your precious support!

Today have advanced one more step, after googling and asking questions i found a book that seems to fit my current learning needs. It's called Programming in Objective-C. As stated on amazon description "The book makes no assumption about prior experience with object-oriented programming languages or with the C language. And because of this, both novice and experienced programmers alike can use this book to quickly and effectively learn the fundamentals of Objective-C". The Author of the book is Stephen Kochan. I feel confident with this book, because he is author and co-author of several bestselling books on other languages, also because he has the reputation for easy-to-follow writing.

Shipping and handling with inter country taxes the book cost 73$. I have choose the US version because its the latest errata printed copy. Regrettable the Canadian version was cheaper but not the latest :-(

Received many suggestions and will work on all of them, Will start french video version to open the doors to more audience, i may do a Portuguese version to.

Need to wait receiving the book to get organized on how to template the book in 30 days phases for an effective learning schedule. I have to create day schedule and follow that model every day. I need some suggestions if any of you is a teacher or a current successful student.

Now here is what i currently thinking for the route of things:
  • Learn Objective-C, comprehend and exercise
  • Read Apple documentations
  • Sketch the first application on paper
  • Start coding the application
  • Complete application and beta testing (Promotion codes will be released for beta testers)
  • Fine-tuning for publishing
  • Create a publisher name and logo
  • Publish the application (If possible will be free - donation supported )
  • This will be the time to talk deeply on the main core features, functions and what purpose

Once available on Apple AppStore, will open discussion on possible business model and investors. Here I think we will have a lot of fun :-) Hopefully we will see the future through a new fenestral.

In visual-perspective I'm not yet an egg "may well look like one :-)" after comprehended the book an egg will be born then again i have to work hard to hatch :-)

If you have any constructive criticisms or helpful suggestions that will help, please feel free to post.

Welcome - The Thirty Days Challenge

Hi everyone,

I have set myself the challenge of making a complete commercial quality iPhone app/game in multi phases. Once its completed it will be submitted to Apple AppStore.

I have no programming knowledge, no art course or any kind of experience on any of the subject to develop an iPhone application. Thats why i call this a challenge.

I hope to document exactly what i will do and how things progress on each 30 days phases on this blog with video posting as often as possible. If any of you is thinking one day, learning and making an iPhone application or game from scratch, then this blog should be the right place to start. Because i will try to document the progress and keep the blog informative as such it can be followed as a future model.

Before i start, let me tell you that I'm unemployed at this time. Economy crisis is hard for unemployed people, because hiring at the moment is avoided, instead laying-off is the course of action to survive the crisis. As you can understand, this is the most worst time ever to lose a job, because to find a new one, its like winning lottery!

I have setup a official paypal donation button on the blog (just at your right) for this challenge. I hope and appreciate that you donate something, anything, because i have no revenue or any kind... nada!!! You can help today by donating because you are helping a real person in real life. (For the donors, i will work on a special greeting place on each application created trough this blog - I'm open to suggestions)

This is going to be fun, because fun is important for creativity and fundamental for learning. I already have a few ideas for a virtual reality app, one 3D game and one killer application. I want to start first coding the application before the games.

Time to get set up… Please see the video below.

If you have any constructive criticisms or helpful suggestions that will help, please feel free to post.
